US box shipments stable in June

In June, US box shipments declined by 0.1% from this time last year and the decline in total containerboard inventories was a little higher than average.

In the first half of the year, box shipments have increased by 0.6%, however if you take into account the extra day’s shipping that we had, the figure comes down 0.2%.

US containerboard mills operating rates increased to 96.9% in June, which means that the average operating rate in the first half of the year was 94.5% - which is virtually the same as last year.

US containerboard exports increased by 21k tonnes in June (up to 348k), which is a 9.4% increase from last year.

US imports – mainly from Canada - were at 404k tons, down 7.6% from last year.
