UK Output Increases by 0.2% in Quarter Two
Q2 2011 showed a rise in Gross Domestic Product of 0.2%, following a rise of 0.5% in Q1. There were several things that we need to take into account in Q2 - the additional April bank holiday; the royal wedding and the after effects of the Japanese tsunami. It’s impossible to determine the exact impact of these circumstances, but it’s safe to say they will have had an effect.
Total services output increased by 0.5% in Q2, following an increase of 0.9% in Q1. Business services and finance showed the greatest growth, going from +0.4% in Q1 to +0.7% in Q2.
Transport, storage and communication +1.1% In Q2, compared with +2.5% in Q1
Government and other services showed zero growth in Q2, compared with +1.1% in Q1
Distribution, hotels and restaurants increased by 0.3% in Q2, compared with +0.9% in Q1.
Total production output decreased 1.4% in Q2, compared with a decrease of 0.1% in Q1. The largest contribution to the decline in this quarter was from mining and quarrying.
Manufacturing decreased by 0.3% in Q2, compared with +0.7% in Q1.
Mining and quarrying decreased by 6.6% in Q2, compared with a decrease of 1.8% in Q1.
Electricity, gas and water supply decreased by 3.2% in Q2, compared with a decrease of 3.5% in Q1.
Agriculture, forestry and fishing output decreased 1.3% in Q2, compared with + 0.1% in Q1.
