Demand for Retail Ready packaging to continue to rocket

The demand for retail ready packaging is set to grow still further over the next few years – a study from Pira International suggests that volumes will grow from an already significant 19m tonnes in 2010 to 27m tonnes in 2016. Much of this growth is likely to be from emerging markets like Asia Pacific and Latin America, although expansion in existing markets is forecast as well.

Driving this growth are rising populations and the growing popularity of supermarkets - as well as improved printing technologies and the use of white top liners. Cost control is also a major factor – with RRP enabling retailers to save oodles of cash by reducing labour costs, improving productivity and reducing out-of-stock situations.

The study also predicts that the proportion of non-food products being transported and displayed in retail ready packaging will grow from the current level of around 22% to approx 25% by 2016.
