Europac strengthens its position in Spain and Portugal
Spain's Europac has reinforced its position in the recycling sector in Spain and Portugal as the firm's recycling arm, Europac Recicla, purchased Entorno Ecológico in Valladolid, north-central Spain, and Recicom in Figueira da Foz, west-central Portugal. The cost of the deals has not been revealed.
Post purchase, Europac have renamed Recicom to Europac Recicla Figueira, which mainly deals in the hazardous and non-hazardous waste sectors. It is based between Europac's existing Portuguese recycling hubs, (Europac Recicla Lisboa and Europac Recicla Oporto), hence enabling Europac to cover more of the Portuguese recycling market.
Entorno Ecológico currently specialises in the destruction of confidential documents – this new buyout by Europac enables Europac Recicla to offer a new service to its clients in the recycling sector. (The firm will maintain the DIN/CEN32757-1 shredder security standard to prevent the reconstruction of documents by reducing them to particles with a maximum size of 2mm.)
As well as waste handling, the former Recicom handles some 6,000 tonnes pa of recovered paper (RCP). Europac plans to significantly increase this amount over the coming months.
According to Europac's CEO Enrique Isidro, the acquisitions of Entorno Ecológico and Recicom are in line with the firm's strategy to further expand in the recycling sector. Europac hopes to raise its RCP self-sufficiency rate to 50%.
