DS Smith’s closure of PM2 at Hollins Mill, Lancashire moves forward

DS Smith has announced a change to the planned closure of Hollins Mill in Darwen, Lancashire. Originally PM2 (which produces 35,000 tonnes of recycled containerboard p.a.) was going to be closing in September 2012, but this date has now been brought forward to the end of January. Plans for the Mill’s other machine remain unchanged with a scheduled shut down in September.

It’s understood that the mill’s employees will be unaffected by this change and their contracts will remain in place until September.

This closure was originally announced in June 2011 and DS Smith plan to transfer production of white-top testliner to Kemsley mill in Kent, where an upgrade to the mill's 325,000 tonne p.a. recycled containerboard machine (BM 3) is due in May/June.
